少小立大志，扶锄凝远山。
家贫亲不结，千里寻姻缘。

晓闻远宾至，对镜插红簪。
面如杏花色，心比碧潭清。

巧目略清扬，侧身回闺房。
爷娘心笃定，女儿意彷徨。

忍辞爷娘去，泪洒红粉裳。
爬山涉水行，幼弟傍身旁。

上堂拜公姥，出门扶小叔。
昼夜勤作息，意恐时人瞠。

夫既怀大志，奉令赴西地。
日日劳作苦，夜夜两相思。

生儿膝前戏，养女怀中亲。
儿女渐长成，欢颜慰苦心。

万里求学难，长空浴月光。
两地相见稀，百事躬耕忙。

恍闻爷娘唤，梦回梨园香。
玉食不辨味，美酒不成欢。

多情相依羡，彼此灵犀牵。
待到东风至，游子不迟归。

注释：

千里：上世纪60年代，父亲翻山越岭去外地相亲，路途崎岖遥远，几近五百华里，来回一千里。
红粉：红粉知己，指母亲儿时的女孩伙伴。
公姥：父亲的父母亲，其母在父亲婚后半年病逝。
小叔：母亲有三个小叔，当时两个小叔尚且年幼，正在读初中。
西地：指甘肃省皋兰县西岔，父亲外调工作之地。
晓闻：本句暗藏长子之名。
万里：指长子远赴海外求学。本句开始直到结束写他的经历和心愿。
梨园：指皋兰县什川古梨园镇。
依羡：借喻电视连续剧陈情令中魏无羡和蓝忘机之手足深情。
东风：指合适的时机。祈愿父母健康，待儿女长大成人之时，可退下工作，去奉养父母。
游子：父母亲盼望儿女在家乡就业安家，谁知长子晓斌全家旅居海外，至今已二十余年。所幸两个女儿与他们同城居住，彼此常常走动照应。

The Way of Wei’s Family
By Little Sheep Bing Bing

In youth grand dreams began to soar,
Hoe in hand, eyes scanned the distant shore.
Though poor, no marriage tie was made,
A thousand miles away, love’s bond was laid.

At dawn, the guests from afar were near,
Before the mirror, red pins set clear.
Face soft as apricot blooms in spring,
Heart as pure as a deep pool’s ring.

Graceful eyes swept softly aside,
A quiet retreat to the bridal side.
Parents’ hearts at ease and still,
Yet doubts within stirred against will.

Tears held back as farewells came,
Scarlet dress soaked, despite the aim.
Mountains climbed and waters crossed,
A younger brother never lost.

To elders, bowed with utmost grace,
Helped the brother with gentle pace.
Day and night, worked without cease,
Fearing whispers would steal the peace.

The husband, with lofty dreams set high,
Followed duty, to the west did fly.
Daily toil brought hardship’s weight,
Nightly thoughts kept longing straight.

A son played with joy, laughter bright,
A daughter held close, tender and light.
They grew, bringing smiles so dear,
Comforting hearts through every year.

To study afar was no simple quest,
Under the moon, hopes found their rest.
Though meetings were few, love stayed strong,
Both hands busy all day long.

In dreams the parents’ voices called,
Fragrance of pear blossoms gently enthralled.
Yet feasts no longer tasted sweet,
And wine no more brought joy complete.

Admired were those with bonds so tight,
Hearts connected, spirits alight.
When eastern winds begin to blow,
The traveler homeward soon shall depart.
